OBITUARY - 2002
MADISON - Janet Arline (Ristow) Gruen, age 66, died on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002; angels came to take Janet to heaven while surrounded by her loving family at home. She was the daughter of Elmer and Agnes (Wood) Ristow of New Lisbon/Elroy. She was born on Nov. 8, 1936, at the Mauston Hospital. She graduated in 1954 from New Lisbon High School. She was baptized, confirmed, and united in marriage to Lyle Gruen of Wilton on Oct. 19, 1957, all at the East Lemonweir Lutheran Church of rural Elroy. Janet was a homemaker while Debbie was young, and later became a church secretary at Heritage Congregational Church of Madison for 10 years. She enjoyed bird watching, animals, flowers, using her computer (e-mail), cooking, and going out to dinner, but most of all spending time with her family and friends. Janet was a very caring person, who found great joy in helping others. She was a loyal and loving wife, devoted mother, and a caring and supportive friend. Left behind to cherish her memories are her beloved husband, Lyle of Madison; her devoted daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law, Jeff Kemnitz, of Madison; and many other family and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Agnes (Wood) Ristow of New Lisbon/ Elroy. The visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at EAST LEMONWEIR LUTHERAN CHURCH, rural Elroy, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, with a one hour visitation preceding the service at 11 a.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to Pastor Peter Narum of Bethel Lutheran Church of Madison for his many visits and spiritual support, Dr. Robert Olson and staff at Associated Physicians of Madison, HospiceCare staff (especially her nurse, Judy, and volunteers, Estelle and Virginia), Meriter Hospital, Meriter Home Health (especially her nurse and special friend, Cindy), her sister-in-law, Eve, best friend, Dottie, and many other caregivers, for all the loving care that they showed Janet throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Bethel Lutheran Church of Madison, East Lemonweir Lutheran Church of Elroy, or to HospiceCare. Mom - May you always walk in sunshine and God's love around you flow; for the happiness you gave us, no one will ever know. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone; a part of us went with you the day God called you home. If love could only have saved you, you would never have died. God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best. Cress Funeral Service 3610 Speedway Road (608) 238-3434.
