OBITUARY - 1999
Agnes Mae Ristow, 92, New Lisbon/Elroy died Sept. 12 at Middleton Village in Madison. Born Aug. 14, 1907 on the home farm in Juneau County, she was the daughter of Martin and Anna (Gullickson) Wood. Agnes was united in marriage to Elmer Ristow, Jan. 18, 1928 at the East Lemonweir Parsonage. Agnes lived and farmed with her late husband for over fifty years. They moved to Elroy in their retirement. Agnes enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Jane (Lyle) Gruen, Madison, her granddaughter Debbie (Jeff) Kemnitz, Madison; three sisters, Grace Haug, Madison, Esther (Fritz) Wehman, New Lisbon, and Marion Fulleman, Janesville, as well as many other friends and relatives. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Maurice, sisters Clara Mayenschein, Myrtle Johnson, five brothers and sisters-in-law.
"God saw that she was getting old and a cure was not to be; so he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
The family wishes to express a special thank-you to Pastor Jacobson for his many visits and spiritual support, and to Dr. Robert Olson and the staff at the Middleton Village Nursing Facility for their loving care during her illness. Funeral services will be held Wed., Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at the East Lemonweir Lutheran Church in rural Elroy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hare Funeral Home on Tuesday Sept. 14 from 5-7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
