OBITUARY - 1930
Knute Johnson, prominent farmer and respected citizen of this county, and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Even Johnson, was born September 7, 1869 in the town of Fountain, and died at his home in that township on August 21, 1930. He became ill about 2 weeks ago previous to his death, which was caused by an infection in his throat. Mr. Johnson lived on a farm all of his life. He obtained his education in the rural schools.
On September 17, 1896, Miss Sarah Gullickson was married to Mr. Johnson, and unto this union the following children were born: Elsmere, Hilbert, Theodore, and Floyd of Fountain; Enoch, Milwaukee; Leonard, Madison; Miss Huldah of Milwaukee and Mrs. Edward Martin of Fountain, all of whom, with their mother survive. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. William Clark of Fountain and Mrs. Hans Ristvedt of Sacred Heart, Minnesota and two brothers, Sievert of Warroad, Minnesota and Ole of Ontario, Canada. Two grandchildren also survive him.
In early life he became a member of the E. Lemonweir Norwegian Lutheran church, and remained true to its teaching to the end.
He held the office of school treasurer, and was chairman of the Town of Fountain for many years and held that office at the time of his death. Mr. Johnson was also a director in the F. & M. Bank of this city, a dance inspector for Juneau County, and one of the best-known members of the county board. He was possessed of good judgment, and was honorable in all his dealings with his fellow men.
Those who knew Knute Johnson had the utmost confidence in him and held him in the highest esteem. His advice and counsel was often sought by friends and neighbors. In the affairs of the Town of Fountain, he took an active and sincere interest.
Knute Johnson was a man of worth in his community and he will be greatly missed. He was fair and considerate in all things. As a husband, father, and brother he was kind, loving, and indulgent.
Juneau County mourns with the family over their great loss.
Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon. A prayer was spoken at the home at 2:30 o’clock, and services, conducted by Rev. C. Hjermstad, were held at the East Lemonweir church at 3:00 o’clock. Hundreds of friends and neighbors were present to pay a last tribute of respect to a good and honorable man. County officers and members of the county board acted as a guard of honor when the body was taken into the church and when it was carried out.
Relatives from away attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. James Wood, Walter Wood and Mrs. Charles Johnholtz, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Conley, Reedsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gullickson, Milwaukee; Sever Johnson, and Mrs. Earl Johnson, Minneapolis.

Noteringar

Föräldrar: Eivind Johnson Dalen och Johanna (Jane) Olsdatter Bordalen
- Knute and Sarah were ninth cousins, once removed.
- Knute's house in the town of Fountain was built by his brother, John, the same year that the tornado killed Sarah's mother, Helga, in 1907. With this happening so vivid in his mind, the basement of the house was made 10 feet deep to be safe from future tornados. after the tornado that killed Grandma Gullickson and made Amelia so nervous, the family was so devistated, and feared that it could happen again so John built the house, so it had a basement, and could withstand a tornado, should ever one come again. He talked about the high ceiling in the basement, and how solid things were built, for that very reason, according to Hibby, it was supposed to be tornado proof.

1918 NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
New Lisbon newspaper dated 16 May 1918 - Church Valley
It has just been brought to our attention that Lewis Tempte, Mr. and Mrs. Knute Johnson and their son Elsmere of Church Valley witnessed a wonderful phenomenon in the sky at midnight during the recent display of the northern lights. The former was watching the heavens when a perfect reproduction of the American Flag was illuminated in the sky, and he called the others by phone to witness it. Mrs. Peter LaQue says that it was a manifestation from GOD that the American Forces would win the war.

- In 1928 Knute is a Juneau County board member representing the town of Fountain, he was also on 2 committees: Insane Accounts and Dance Hall Regulations.

- In 1929 Knute paid $162.36 in taxes to the Town of Fountain.
