D. J. HAUGEBERG, present Register of Deeds of Moody county, South Dakota, is a native of Winneshiek county, Iowa. His parents, John T. and Rachel (Aaker) Haugeberg, were natives of Norway, and emigrated from thence to America in 1846 and settled, first, in Muskegon, Wisconsin, and three
years later moved to Winneshiek county, Iowa. Here he lived until 1877, when he sold out his farm and went to Moody county, South Dakota, and settled in Alliance township.

D. J. Haugeberg, abstractor and conveyancer, was born in Winneshieck County, Iowa, in 1863; attended college at Decorah, Iowa, graduating in 1883. In 1879 Mr. Haugeberg moved to Moody County, and in 1885 engaged in farming for himself. In 1890 he was elected register of deeds, and re-elected in 1894 and 1896. Since 1898 he has been engaged in the abstract business; does a general insurance business, and pays taxes for non-residents. He has his office with George L. Pettigrew, the real estate man. Mr. Haugeberg has a complete set of abstracts of Mood County, and does an extensive business. He is secretary of the independent school district of Flandreau.
